A couple of weeks ago, I somehow managed to turn up at the Academy of Arts at the presentation of final Fashion Design Department Theses of the young designers. A student that graduates this summer has personally invited me. Since this was unexpected, I didn’t have a photographer with me. Thanks to the smartphones and the photos that are taken by the students themselves, I could collect enough material to share with you the most interesting moments of this unique fashion show. I was pleased by every creation of the young designers, especially by the integrity of the created looks: the make-up, shoes and hairstyles. I was so satisfied, that the future of Moldavian Fashion industry smiled brightly to me.

Nipomici Dumitrita – “Broken soul”
A melancholically – poetical collection in a romantic style. This was noticeable in the choice of the textiles, pastel colors, make-up and hairstyles. In order to avoid the old-fashion romantic mood, Dumitrita has added some elements that are trending nowadays, such as white slip-ons and some kind of svitshot, in the same romantic mood interpretation. I think that she managed to express the sense that she tried to communicate through the name of the collection.

Kornelia Gricenco – “Off limits”
Based on Kornelia’s words, the aim of the collection is the fight against stereotypes. She has chosen the minimalistic style, expressed through simple lines, accurate shapes of pastel shades, creating a unique melancholic and strict vision of women’s character.

Ecaterina Kaliforova – “Oriental evening”
It is a collection created from dark-blue soft tulle fabric. The clothes stand out thanks to the hand-drawn birds. Straight lines distinguish the cut; also, the periodical tulle haziness, lightness and randomness, all of these add mysteriousness to the works.

Yulia Efros
These famous quotes inspired Julia during the creation of the collection: “If you can maintain the children’s spontaneity, you will never get old”; “The soul is born old, but grows young. That is the comedy of life. The body is born young, and grows old. That is life’s tragedy.” The designer has created a poetical look with watery eyes, neonatal skin and white hair that reminded about elderly people and their wisdom. Meanwhile, the colors and details of the outfits represent the childish spontaneity. This collection is about the mood between two generations: young and old.

Maria Gutu – “Drifting age”
Maria claims that her prêt-à-porter collection was designed especially for very young women with a specific lifestyle: highly motivated, outside someone’s control and influence and in search of theirinner self. The outfits from this collection fit with a certain type of mood; these clothes give the sense of freedom and comfort. Everything is handmade: the stitch, embroidery, and the dyeing.

Grati Elena
This is an urban style collection designed for men and women. The total-looks are made of monochromatic blue jeans and baggy fabric, decorated with knit hats and ethnic ornaments. Elena has created an excellent layering in her ready for street works.

Natalia Balaban
Another avant-garde collection for men and women executed in the blue and blue-green tones. The fantasy and reality bizarrely interlace with each other. Despite the complexity of the outfits, the designer chose straight cuts, and added the complexity through details and hand-made decorations. Also, the layering and oversized cut had find a place in her collection.

Meresciuc Sergiu
An avant-garde men collection with a touch of androgyny. The looks are special thanks to the bright colors and specific cut.  The designer has been using in his works such trends as large check pants, something similar to skirt-over-pants and light oversize cut. In Sergey’s vision, his collection represents the life in social media.
